Mahmood Mamdani

Mahmood Mamdani has had an extremely distinguished academic career. Before re-joining Makerere University to head up its Institute of Social Research, he was the Herbert Lehman Professor of Government at Columbia University.

His works explore the intersection between politics and culture, a comparative study of colonialism since 1452, the history of civil war and genocide in Africa, the Cold War and the War on Terror, and the history and theory of human rights.

He has been listed in both Prospect and Foreign Policy Magazine's top 20 global public intellectuals.
