Ian Scoones is a Professorial Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex, and Co-Director of the ESRC STEPS Centre, Sussex.
He is an agricultural ecologist by training, and has led a number of large, multi-country, interdisciplinary projects. His work - much of which has been in southern and east Africa, notably Zimbabwe - focuses on the intersection between issues of rural livelihoods and institutional and policy change, and explores the linkages between local knowledges and practices and the processes of scientific enquiry, development policy-making and field-level implementation.
